Welcome to my blog

What I Learned in January

I L.O.V.E. learning and growing for all sorts of different reasons.  If you need a reason to keep things fresh in your life, here you go….

I have heard it said that the reason it feels like life is going faster and faster is that there are no longer new experiences to create new feelings to create new memories. We quit living as fully as when we were kids and seeing the beach the first time or making firefly rings.

We get numb.  Jennie Allen

I so desperately want to be awake to what is going on in my life and the lives of those around me and not miss it all in a blur.  One way to snatch bits and pieces of the crazy is to keep life fresh by engaging and learning new things and then snapshoting those memories in your mind….or on your phone….or maybe in a journal.

Here is a look back at what I learned in January:

#1 – If it’s going to happen, then I MUST write it down!  Sharing my goals (my Intended Wing) with you has made me very intentional about working on what I said I would do.  I also have done well with my new planner when I write down anything that needs to happen on any given day.  Writing it down works for me.

#2 – The end of December wrapped up one month of me wearing dresses everyday as part of Dressember.  I actually really enjoyed wearing dresses every day.  It forced me to get dressed and “done up” which always makes me feel good.  Daily dresses also made me mindful of women and girls around the world and the struggles they face.  Dressember was a great experience all around.

Last day of 2014 AND last day of . Learned a lot! Can't wait for my jeans tomorrow.

#3 – Jesus can move mountains in your life in all sorts of ways but sometimes it’s a book and when you least expect it.

#4 – Did you know that there are 900 blogs for every 1 podcast?  I learned that this month.  I also learned gobs about putting together a podcast from a technical aspect.  Sometimes learning new things is hard even though it’s good.  Here is a favorite podcast of mine:  Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey – check it out HERE.

In a neat twist, I learned a while ago that Jamie Ivey is married to Aaron Ivey whose music and worship I adore.  Aaron Ivey and the Austin Stone led worship at IF last year and were out of this world.  Here’s a favorite of mine from Austin Stone.

Jesus IS better…make my heart believe.

#5 – For the first time ever, we went away over Christmas break.  We spend the 2nd week of break in Florida with family and I loved it.  Being gone that week was a great way to start a new year and exit the holiday season without the drag that normally accompanies it.  I wasn’t sure if I would like being gone from my home and familiar holiday routine but it turned out wonderful.  You’ll never know unless you try, right?

So excited to cheer on the Buckeyes all the way in Florida!

#6 – This is my friend Carrie.  She has over 44,000 unopened emails in her inbox.  I can’t even.  No joke.  There are some serious spiritual and practical lessons in there somewhere but this so stresses me out that I can’t even talk about it.

BFFs for.like.ever. Isn’t she pretty?

#7 – This one blew my mind.  Did you know that you can mix the dry ingredients of whatever you are baking on wax paper and therefore eliminate an entire bowl that needs washing?  I tried this trick and it work.  Thanks Kendra at Box up the Happy.

#8 – One of my goals was to do something creative.  Last month it was this adorable garland with tassels and this month I tried my hand (no pun intended) at hand lettering.  I like it.

I'm not a crafter but made this beaded garland with tassels and love it! Fun way to spend time this afternoon. Instructions courtesy of . You can find all the deets on her blog. ☺️

#9 – Have you downloaded the app Crazy Helium yet?  If not, you are missing out on boat loads of fun.  I wish I could share all the funny videos I’ve received from people with you but that might not make them too happy.  You are going to have to take my word for it.  Head on over to the App Store and get the free version of Crazy Helium.  Hours of fun there.  You can make your face look like this!
